I agree with a lot of what you're saying and I am so upset that the NBA has come to this. I didn't have the opportunity to watch the 90s era of basketball, but I really wish I had, as it seemed so much more exciting and tough.

I am so tired of the foul game that takes place at the end of the game - the anger boils up inside of me every time a team carries out this technique to extend a game. LeBron James is also a great player I cannot bring myself to like and I am so tired of him constantly being mentioned, even when he is not playing. It is not fresh or interesting anymore, just very boring.

Don't forget Blake Griffin and Stephen Curry as budding young stars. The start may have been Shaq in the 1990s with his "stellar" movie career, (Kazaam is horrifically awful) and his rap albums which made me yearn for Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys. He was in every commercial and was hyped to no end. It's out of control right now.

I build upon one of your observations and will go further and state LeBron James ruined everything. He was the 'tipping point' that exposed the NBA as too overtly commercial in every aspect: not only franchising, but team-building, ever-extending season & playoffs, and its very structure as a spectator sport (too many time outs/commercials for sure!). The long season/playoffs is also impacting how and when players play (D. Rose situation).

I wonder if that's why I'm rooting for the Spurs this year. They have got to be one of the least flashy--if not outright boring--legacy teams in recent sports history. They all stayed (!), work together as a team, compliment each other, share accomplishments, work hard (they're so old you know they're working hard!), stay out of trouble, and are not commercially over-exposed. The team's flashiest move is Parker's lay ups, which are beautiful to watch but not 'hard' enough to sell product. If LeBron/Heat is what symbolizes 'exciting' basketball right now, I choose the boring, old, consistent, loyal, predictable team, the one that Greg P. led to 4 rings, btw.

That being said, I think we just have to "push through" this intolerable LeBron/Heat era. There are plenty of younger stars that seem to have a little more personality. CP3, Durant, Harden, Curry, Randolph...
