Bayern Munich vs Manchester City Preview

Bayern Munich and Manchester City is a mouth-watering Group A matchup that will headline Match Day 3 at Allianz Arena.

The Bavarian side produced a positive away result against Villareal that has them top of the table in the group. City managed a draw against Napoli at Eastlands  in their first Group Stage match.

Since losing their opening match in the Bundasliga, Bayern have been playing smashing football winning 9 consecutive matches while not conceding a single goal in those matches. With the Champions League Final in their home stadia, Bayern are motivated by playing the final in front of their rabid supporters and are a team obsessed with success.

Manchester City are level on points with their derby counterparts Manchester United at the top of the Premier League Table with goal difference being the only divide. The Sky Blues are undefeated in all competitions so far and are want to make their mark in Europe’s biggest club competition.

Bayern’s strength is their magical midfield led by Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. Both were sidelined with injury woes last season but are fully fit and have made a considerable impact on Die Roten. Along with the venerable Bastian Schweinsteiger and rising star Thomas Muller, Bayern has a midfield to rival anyone in the world. Mario Gomez is a world-class striker who is brutally efficient around the net. Captain Philipp Lahm leads a stingy back line who are underrated by the media but greatly appreciated by manger Jupp Heynckes.

City play an attractive brand of football by concentrating on attacking and goalscoring. Sergio Aguero has paced the City attack with 8 goals in all competitions and has been nothing short of dazzling for the Sky Blues. The question will be can Mario Balotelli concentrate on the pitch and avoid the distractions surrounding his squabble with manager Roberto Mancini? If yes, Balotelli and Aguero can form a dynamic partnership up front. The midfield is all about attack attack attack. Samir Nasri is a creative playmaker with a flair for the dramatic, Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure provide pace and control while moving forward. If City plays a holding midfielder they can turn to Nigel De Jong. The back line is led b Gael Clichy and Wayne Bridge while Joe Hart is a capable goalie.

Prediction: Goals could be aplenty but the pressure of European football usually doesn’t provide too many fireworks. I think Bayern is more balanced than City and are more adept at playing various formations and tactics. Bayern wins 3-1.

I’m pulling for Manchester city hell I might even watch it

  2. Man City 2-1, Bayern’s back is not as tight as required to stop the onslaught of the sky blues, unless they are distracted by Robben and Ribery’s attack..
